About Docklands

Historically, Docklands was actually a swamp, home to wildlife and plenty of vegetation – an ideal area for the Wurundjeri people who lived off the land. Industrialisation led to the destruction of the area over the years though – during the goldrush in the 1850s, Victoria Dock (now Victoria Harbour) was created to meet the demands of increased migration to the area.
