By Aletheia - GRADE 5/6A - Docklands Primary School

Grades 3 to 6 students at Docklands Primary School all loved our recent Athletics Day! It was so much fun.

During Athletics Day, 2023, there were six events including 100m race, 200m race, hurdles, shotput, discus and high jump. It also included smaller events, such as tug-of-war, javelin throws, sack races and an obstacle course.

These events were divided into age and gender groups, girls and boys (aged eight to nine, 10 to 11 and 12 to 13). I gathered opinions of the older age groups on the day, asking them if they enjoyed the events at athletics.

The first age group I asked were the 10 to 11 girls. I didn’t get time to ask all of the people involved in the day, so this is by majority.

Overall, the most liked event was the 100m, with only one person disliking this out of 12. The second most liked event was high jump. The most liked event for the 12 to 13 girls was 100m sprint, followed by 200m. The 10 to 11 and 12 to 13 boys enjoyed high jump, 100m and hurdles.

As the end of the day was reached, the house relays started! The Grade 2s came to watch and cheer on the Grade 3 to 6 students. Each house sprinted so quickly and tried their best, but in the end, Barty House was the first house to cross the finish line!

As well as winning the relay, Barty House also won the day overall, finishing on the most points with Goodes House coming second. Barty got around 100 more points than Goodes, what a milestone!

It was a great day had by all. We are very thankful to the amazing PE teachers, Ms McConnell and Mr Cooper for their organisation, all of the teachers and the parent volunteers for making the day one to remember. •
